Marie Antoinette
I recently watched this film again, and fell in love all over again.
Its Sofia Coppola + Kirsten Dunst, what else can I say? The film doesn't have the strongest storyline, but visually it's breathtaking; the dominating colours of pink and blue for the majority of things in the film from the macaroons, Marie's bedroom decor, her crazy wigs, her shoes, to the frills of her dresses. The colours are so romantic.

Everything portrayed is extravagant and luxurious but this decadence is filmed so beautifully by Coppola with close ups of Marie's shoes, mountains of cakes, bright pops of colour combined with a punk rock soundtrack, its fun, young and very girly. It's a visual feast.

Too cool
Sofia Coppola=cool. She doesn't even have to try.
One of my favourite film makers, shes an artist and an innovator. This effortless cool resonates in her films; always beautiful, peaceful, and the moments where nothing happens are the moments which make the film so profound and is her signature.

Fashion wise, she just kills it. She can be casually dressed in flats and trousers but with amazing accessories. I find her style classic and Pariseinne.
Case in point, this beautiful ad for her handbag collaboration with Louis Vuitton. I covet this bag so much. I love the romantic element of the photos, especially the colours in the first one-effortlessly beautiful, like Sofia herself.

Wild Thing
Another recent sales purchase; H&M leopard print gloves with leather on the reverse side. The leopard print is in a furry type fabric and is very soft and a really nice contrast with the leather. They make me feel like I should be gripping the steering wheel of a vintage car, wearing a headscarf and huge sunglasses a la Grace Kelly!

Tête de Mort
An unconventional jewellery box to house my rings.
I found this plastic 'half skull' at a street fair and thought it would be perfect to hold jewellery, especially rings as its quite roomy and not a boring box. The guy saw how excited I was and amused, sold it to me for a mere €0.50.
Naughty but nice
Sales purchase: leather skirt embellished with small bronze studs that go all the way around the trim.

Belle de Jour
I've had an epiphany. A lot of my recent blog posts actually culminate, quite by accident, into one single film that seems to represent all that I worship in fashion...'Belle De Jour'.
Made in 1966 and staring Catherine Deneuve, the fashion in this film is just perfection (as is Catherine) and a must see for any fan of 60s style. YSL designed the costumes, Catherine Deneuve was a muse of his and it isn't hard to see why.
I just adore all the looks; the structured coats, pillbox hats, patent leather shoes, peter pan collars, winged eyeliner. Sigh. Total 60s French glamour at its best.

Perfection
This photo of model Twiggy (circa 1960) has made me so happy. The winged eyeliner, the false bottom eyelashes, the hair style, the furry coat and of course the Peter Pan collar-its just perfection.
Retro shoe love
miumiu.com
Online yesterday I saw these gorgeous pumps by Miu Miu, I wish they were mine mine! So beautiful, so retro and so out of my price range. I love the patent leather, the bejewelled heel yet simplicity of a short block heel, it's classic. The kind of heel you can walk and run in comfortably. Ideally I would wear them with a 1960s style box dress, reminiscent of Penelope Tree and Jane Birkin who favoured this style of shoe in the 60s.

Peter Pan
The sales start today in France and I am dying to find something with a Peter Pan collar; ideally a dress, black with a white collar, a bit like a sexy pilgrim. I saw THE most perfect dress in Tara Jarmon that it made me gasp outloud, but I think I may wait until it's reduced further in the sales!
In any case, I think I will probably be visitng Esty.com for detachable collars that you can add to any garment to create the illusion of a Peter Pan collar.
In the quest for the perfect Peter Pan collar (or col Claudine for the french) I'm taking inspiration from the likes of:

The collection
So I have a few pairs of ankle boots, mainly in black. You can never have too many!
They range from Pierre Hardy for Gap to a vintage pair that I picked up last week for €20 at Hippy Market, Lille.
They're so versatile and go with everything from jeans to dresses and skirts. They make dressier outfits more casual and understated. A cute lacy dress is instantly cooler and and effortless with a pair of short black boots.
Chloe Sevigny is queen of black ankle boots since she came onto the scene in the 90s and is still rocking the look.
Alexa Chung is a must when mentionning black boots

I have passed this addiction onto my boyfriend who lives in his and cant go into a vintage shop without perusing leather boots. The problem is it does mean that the battle for shoe space is on!
